[Quick Fixes] Dö - Astral Death/Birth (EP)

Dö - Astral Death/Birth (EP)
One year after their full album "Tuho" ('Destruction' in Finnish) Dö are coming back on 26th May with a brand new EP release. The band was kind enough to send us the EP some days ago and also allowed us to play their tracks on Downtuned Radio before the official release
date and we are more than thankful for that.

The EP is entitled ASTRAL: Death/Birth and it is consisted of two tracks with a total duration of 20 minutes but still they should be considered as a single unity, or as the band states: "as one cathartic 20 minute experience."
ASTRAL: Death/Birth is a concept EP inspired by things happening around us at this very moment, and the future that does not look that bright for mankind.

The songs were recorded live during one session at the band's rehearsal den, as they wanted to capture the intensive live feeling and maintain their roughness.

Once more this band has delivered! If you were font of their previous releases then you are going to enjoy this one as well. I wish they had provided the lyrics as well, because that would maximize the experience.
This 20 minute EP is an epic, 'eerie' journey to unearthly, vast voids. Repetitive patterns and a constant creepy atmosphere that is abruptly invaded by brutal vocals and heavy riffs.

Mixing the cold black-metal aesthetics with ultra heavy doom riffage that flirts with death-metal is what this band knows best. And probably this has something to do with Finland in particular because I've seen this happening, in a way, with Atomikylä as well... It may be the water in that land or maybe the booze... I don't know what it is, but I do hope that they stick on that 'recipe' because the result kicks ass!
1. Astral Death (07:46)
A song that's heavy as the burden we carry with us when scuffing towards the inevitable end.

2. Astral Birth (12:16)
Cosmic rebirth in form of a song. Starts as calm, mantra-like levitation, until it transforms into vicious, unstoppable force of nature.

bio & info provided by the band:
Dö is dark stoner doom trio from Helsinki, Finland. The origins of the band go all the way back to 2007, but the current style, "döömer", has been developing only for a few years.

Döömer is a genuine combination of stoner, doom, sludge with death/black metal twists here and there. In addition to the great Black Sabbath, reviewers have heard influences from bands like YOB, Electric Wizard, Saint Vitus, Bongzilla, and even OM!
On Midsummer 2017 Dö performs as one of the Wacken Metal Battle Finland finalists at Nummirock, one of the most recognized metal festivals in Finland.
