[Interview] Mutonia [IT]

Mutonia, (Italy) band photo
Mutonia is an Italian rock band formed in 2009 by Matteo De Prosperis (vocals/guitar), Fabio Teragnoli (bass guitar) and Maurizio Tomaselli (drums). We had the chance to ask Matt a few questions to answer them 'on the fly'. Read this mini-interview:

1.-Hello and welcome to Downtuned. First of all, give us some info about the band's background just to let people know you better.
Hi guys! Thanks! Well, we've met in 2009 and straightaway we started playing our music! We've got similar influences: Nirvana for the most!

2.-Did the members of the band participate in other projects or bands in the past and what kind of music did they play?
No, we've begun together when they were 13 and I was 16 years old.
3.-How did you come up with the name "Mutonia" and does it mean something particular for you?
Our bassist thought about the name, he found it and after a while we’ve felt ourselves in it, having multiple changes in style while finding ourselves in music.

4.-How big or active is the underground music scene at your place of living? How easy or difficult was for you to make your first steps as a band? Was it easy to find an audience for your music at your place?
It’s not big and it’s not active, we have to get out of here all the times. Luckily now 2 of us live in Rome, so we spend a lot of time there!
Mutonia - Wrath of the Desert

5.-Almost 5 years have passed since your debut full album "Blood Red Sunset". What has stayed the same and what is different today in the band and in the way you work?
Nothing has changed in the way we work. I spend 3-4 days a week in our place, writing most of the music and sometimes the bass player comes out with a song too.

6.-What were the biggest difficulties that you encountered in producing and releasing your music so far? Did those difficulties affect the way you currently handle a full album release?
Not having enough money for everything, that will always annoy us.

7.-Do you have plans for a new full album release soon?
Yeah we’re working on something big, we’ll update you! :)

8.-How would you describe your music to someone who doesn't know you yet? Is that the style that defines "Mutonia" or is there room for experimentation in the future?
Our music is what our feelings sound like, when you listen to our songs, you can imagine us there in front of you! :)

9.-What were the main reasons and influences that made you adopt this music style?
That’s us, we’ve just adopted to be ourselves! :)

10.-How does the whole songwriting process work for you? What are the emotions you want people to receive when they hear your music?
I write what I feel and the bass player does the same… Sometimes I even write HOW I wanna feel. :)

11.-During a gig, is the communication with the crowd important for you? Does the positive feedback from the crowd motivate you to perform with more passion?
Fuck yeah! We love to interact with the crowd! It’s a nice way to let them become part of the show! They like it too.

12.-Are there any "special" bands that you dream to share the stage with?
Yeah, Queens Of The Stone Age, Royal Blood…And a couple more!

13.-How do you imagine "Mutonia" in 2029?
I only care about today, tomorrow we’ll see! But for sure it’s important to make plans!

14.-What are your plans for this year? Is it a priority for you to try and participate in gigs outside your country?
We’re gonna make a record and yes, try to get out of this country too, why not? We like Greece for example, we got few fans over there!

15.-We wish you good luck to whatever you do in the future, the epilogue is yours…
Thanks guys! We just can say that we’ll keep working on new stuff, don’t forget to keep in touch with us and we’ll see ya soon hopefully!! Thanks for what you do for music, for bands like us, it is very important!! :)
