We had the chance to chat with Reversed Nature, a psychedelic band from Greece, and we present you this mini interview.
Welcome to Downtuned. Tell us a few words about the group, when and where did you get started? How did you meet?
The band started in
the late 2007 where Lefteris and Antonis met during their state in a punk band
called Radioactive Warfare (Ραδιοβιοχημικος Πολεμος).Yeah they used to
play punk hehe… But sadly the band disbanded and they both decided to continue jamming
out of pure boredom. Jam session after jam session, they started to like what they
played so they decided to make the band. At the beginning as a duo, Lefteris on
drums, Antonis on bass, recorded two albums. Nature Reversed and Junkie for a Guide.
On Nature Reversed, Angelica contributed on vocals but she couldn’t carry on
for personal reasons. Some years later, the duo met Dimitra, and she started
singing. Few months later Michael came with his guitar. And here we are now, as
a quartet, as we like it!
Which are your musical influences?
Many things. The life
we are living, for sure hehe. Then moving on to bands, that weren’t afraid to
push the boundaries of music further on. Bands like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink
Floyd, Black Sabbath, Neurosis, Ozric Tentacles, Isis. Bands like that. And we generally
are into any doomy, psychedelic, funky rock kind of music you serve us.
What are your lyrics about? What catches your interest?
Lyrics are mostly
Antonis deal. He is the mastermind behind the entire thing hehe… They are
symbolic meanings of our everyday lives and the situations that we are living, presented
through a fictional story of a character we created. The Nameless Visionary. He
goes through many ordeals to find peace and tranquility. A place to rest his
battered soul.
Is the communication with the crowd something that you care about, in
all levels, or do you do music for yourselves?
If we didn’t care
about folks that are listening to our music, and people in general, then we
don’t think that we would be playing live shows, right? The important thing in
music is to play what you feel, and to be original in what you’re doing. If you
are just here for the cameras and fake comments, to pretend, then don’t do it
at all… Give your soul to what you are doing, and people that share your vision
will follow. Through mutual respect for all those that support us and like your
music we are trying to get better. All the time.
Do you feel like you’re a part of a particular “scene” in which you
would like to join and contribute or you are indifferent about it?
To tell you the truth…
No. Being part of a scene gives you an identity which somehow alters your
intentions in the end. It is something that we don’t like, as we feel music has
her own life. Her own identity. In a country like Greece, where the majority
are not even listening to mainstream rock, creating a “scene” makes it more limited
for its own listeners. Let it breathe, organize mixed live shows! Don’t mark a
band or musician with a name tag, does it matter if it is brutal grindcore, or
blues? Every band has something to offer one way or another.
How do you imagine that the band will be in ten years from now?
Really we don’t know
what we will be doing in ten days from now… Years?
Which famous artist you would like to do a guest to a record of yours
and why?
Hmmm… Basically most
of them are dead… Chris Rea and Neil Young, the abysmal chants of Huun Huur Tu,
the Cretan Lyra of Psarantonis and us somewhere in the middle… Now that would
be cool! Call it: Ποιητική Αδεία.
What plans do you have for the near future?
Keep on playing music
with Reversed Nature for as long as it goes and where ever it goes. Off course.
We wish you good luck to whatever you’re doing, the epilogue is yours.
Peace love and
psychedelia hehe. Can’t wait to jam at the Fuzztastic Planet Festival. Thank you
all for the opportunity!
